Welcome to my world... and those I visit.

Thank you all for your patience! The time is now!

Friendship Oak
Long Beach, MS
On the campus of the University of South Mississippi.

The Rotary Club of Long Beach, like so many others,
is working hard to restore and maintain the life of the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
It is an honor for them to offer to you one of my art images for this wonderful time of re-birth.

Part of the proceeds from each sale of The Friendship Oak will go to the University and a special fund
established by the members of the Rotary to care and maintain The Friendship Oak.
We believe it is by special design that this wonderful tree has survived Katrina.

I visited the old tree right after Katrina and seeing her braches almost bare and many broken,
I realized the strength of her nature.
While there were many trees like her,
it is this one we look to when we recall the way things were... and the way they will become in time.
Donna Peters

The historical marker at her path reads:

Friendship Oak

I was a sapling when Columbus sailed into the
Caribbean and was fully grown by Napolean's
reign. I am now over five centuries old. I have
sheltered Indians, pirates and college students.
I am called The Friendship Oak. Those who enter my
shadow are supposed to remain friends through all
their lifetime no matter where fate may take them
in after years. There in not an alumna of Gulf Park
College who does not possess, tucked away some-
where among her keepsakes and treasures, a twig,
a leaf or an acorn that came out of my heart. The
stairs and platform allow me to invite visitors into
my branches without disturbing my leafage.
Welcome friends.

A little personal sharing:

As I was leaving Pass Christian, MS recently, I found a new post office. The new structure sitting amongst the many other homes and business that are in all stages of revival. As I entered the lobby, I found it filled with laughter and happiness. This was their grand opening of the new post office. Everything that gains any degree of progress and hope on the coast becomes a time of celebration.

Yellow ribbons in most all the yards are not only for our soldiers away at war, but also a warm welcome back to anyone who had to leave their home after Katrina. As they sang the National Anthem at the beginning of the Pass Christian's Art In The Pass show on Saturday, I heard a voice from the gazebo announce the meaning of the ribbons and express a desire to have all their families and neighbors return to the coast of Mississippi.
"We miss you and want you to come back home" she said.

The words of Tie A Yellow Ribbon then rang out across the park. Tender new green growth puffed bravely from the ends of broken branches of all the old oak trees. The park filled with children and families. A gentle breeze from the Gulf just steps away moved in among us all. Alligator sausage and funnel cakes were being served across the way and neighbors met and greeted each other as they visited each artist booth.

I will never tire of seeing this reunion and spirit. Each Azalea bloom is matched by the spirit of an amazing people who have and will continue to set an example of faith and American spirit.

I know many of our friends have not seen the coast with their own eyes. I just felt the need to share this one experience with you.
I wish you all could go there and hear the wonderful stories and see the testament of goodness.

For all they have lost, they have so much to give.

This original is sold. It is in a very good home.

Special note:

Americans are investing in American original art more than ever.
This is good for the American economy as well as the good of the American artist. It also soothes the concerns of many that we as a nation are selling our soul to the import companies and this in turn endangers original American art.

A Magnolia Promise

Oak Alley is my inspiration for this wonderful work of art.
After a wonderful visit to the old mansions along River Road,
near New Orleans, I made sketches that became this painting.
The Magnolia is a symbol of all our dreams and promises.

Year after year,
the Magnolia blooms and fulfills an obligation to earth and mankind. Hidden by the Azalea blooms, you can watch the returning soldier surprise the young lady who has just returned from the back road
with wild flowers for the dinner table.
The first bloom of an old Magnolia on the side lawn fulfills a promise of life, beauty and love everlasting.

A Magnolia Promise is available as a traditional limited edition on paper.

The image is 18 x 24"
You can estimate that this will frame to be about 26 x 32" or larger, depending on the width of your mats and frame.
Framing not included, but is available. There are 500 in this edition.
$95.

Also available:

A canvas edition, stretched just like the original on stretchers and ready to frame.
The canvas size is 22 x 28"
$280.
This is a perfect size for over your mantle and is not put under glass so if you add a picture light
or have spot lights in your ceiling, it will look like the original.

Edition size for the canvas is limited to 100. Each is signed & numbered by the artist.

Shipping is $10 on the un-framed paper edition and $20 on the canvas.

The original is sold.

New Veggies!

Paris!

Breakfast In Paris & Afternoon In Paris

While in Paris, I saw 2 scenes that stayed with me long after I returned to my American studio.
I painted these in oil so I could offer them to you on canvas as well.

Available on canvas or paper, signed and numbered !
Canvas: 16 x 20" each $175.
Paper: 14 x 18" each $85.

Left: Breakfast In Paris Right: Afternoon In Paris

Early one morning, I noticed an interesting gentleman at a patisserie on the "Left Bank" area of Paris. The next day I watched a pretty lady as she took a break to chat in the Louvre plaza. These memories danced in my mind when I returned from Paris and later I was delighted that I had made notes on each and could paint them both. As I worked, I realized how much they may have in common. I suggest to you that the man on the Left Bank may have waited all night for the lady on the Right Bank. If you have ever shopped at "BHV" ( Bazar de l'Hotel deVille) on the Right bank near the Louvre of Paris, you will understand why he may have to wait a bit longer. These are fun.

"Just then the brass whistle on the big boat let out a long loud whistle. The nervous crowd broke into a loud cheer and took a step forward. A nervous murmur covered the dock and the father’s grip on the little girl’s hand tightened. He looked down into Elizabeth's big eyes. “OK,” he said, “It is time to go to America, your new home.”'
donna peters 2006

An excerpt from "Family":

"This was a most wonderful Christmas. Amber had received a gift of life when she learned that happiness and wealth were 2 very different things. Giving had given her a feeling she would never forget. She was so proud that she now had a job and could buy things. Giving to others always gives back more than money can buy."

A Pascagoula Sunrise

What a week this was! I was there every morning before the sun really rose above the shipyard. The sounds of a quiet Gulf Coast towns called Pascagoula and Gautier would soon change to a busy hum as I, hidden from view under the great old Oaks of "The Old Place" aka: Le Maison d'Gautier, set up for a great day of painting. The Gautier family has always extended a warm welcome to my using the yard when not in use by families and their beautiful celebrations. As I painted this wonderful view of the sun rising, I could imagine the beauty of the wedding held here. It was not until very recently that I learned a proud Papa named Mr. Gaery built the gazebo for his own daughters wedding in 1998. Sadly, we lost the little gazebo in 2005, but the memories are safe with all of us!

I painted this original in oil. Much of the work was done on location with about a week in the studio to finish the detail.

There are 24 canvas prints called a"Giclee" available. They are as large as the original and beautiful!

In Crimson mat
Flowers of Dixie

Not just any pretty bouquet!

These, my dear, are the flowers of the Confederate States. If you study the arrangement, you will soon see the flowers are arranged just about the same proximity as are the states. Far left are the Blue Bonnets of Texas. Top and center is the tall Iris of Tennessee. Louisiana and Mississippi share the wonderful Magnolia. Alabama is the Camellia, Georgia the Cherokee Rose, Florida is the Orange Blossom and South Carolina is the Yellow Jasmine North Carolina and Virginia share the Dogwood. The Apple Blossom is the state flower of Arkansas.

Nested in among this happy family of blooms are four bolls of cotton.

A large piece, it fills a large frame. We make our frames 28 x 36" and use a four inch mat... no skimpy mats around here!! This is a beautiful signed and numbered limited edition.

MoonRaker
A Gulf Coast scene of peace image size: 15" x 21"
S/N edition of 500 $65. Great colors !!

This wonderful image is a scene from East Point, Florida. East Point is the small fishing village across the bay from Apalachicola where you catch the bridge to go to St. George Island. For me, it is the perfect place to paint. I chose not to put St. george in the distance as I wanted this painting to be soothing and without destiny. MoonRaker has a very calming effect.. making it good for any child's room or better yet, any office.

Consider using"MoonRaker" with two of the "LandMarks" for a great triptych... over a bed, sofa or buffet. There are several wonderful boat paintings now available in my LandMark Series. Be sure to check the collections for Alabama, Mississippi as well as Florida for these under the "LandMarks" pages.
Good art does more than "match the sofa".

If you need help with selecting your favorites... write us. We can assist you in getting just the right look.
