Painting on location is a real thrill for this artist. She loves to share her stories from these days which usually yield a painting as well as a "local color" story. From fishermen, she has learned much about local fishing traditions as well as their dedication to the sea and a way of life that seldom yields great wealth.
"My hope is that my painting can take you from your inland home to the location. The smells ansd sounds of working on location are the magic in my painting" |

Every state and every light is different. You could spend an entire summer in Michigan... they have 113 lights and most are open to the public. Be sure to pack your jacket and some snacks. Some trips call for taking a ferry ride and you may be gone all day. Be brave and take the adventure... you speak the language !!" d. peters below: Lewis pulls Recycle up on shore on Little St. George Island, Fl |

Lewis found "Recycle" on the way to an aluminum salvage yard a few years ago and knew it would be perfect for our research trips. He paid $150. to save it from being shredded and it has become a tool of our trade." d.peters shown at right: Sapelo Is and Cockspur Is., Georgia |

The beach hotel filled with water as we waited with other guests for a tropical depression to move away. A local fisherman with the boat: "Las Ninas" stayed in constant touch with us through the night. They offered to help us get up near the light in their boats, but the storm never broke and for a day we were stranded on Tybee Island because the road to Savannah was flooded. This worked out well and gave us time to make friends at the local island library and gain access to all their data and clippings about the little brick lighthouse. Taking a break from our vigil, we wandered over to the Tybee light. The sign on the keeper's house which is now a visitor's center said: 'closed, due to inclement weather' The irony of this made us chuckle and to this day we look back and marvel at the beautiful sky I painted in the actual painting... a good way to see our world after a bad storm" d.peters |

| Nothing replaces the opportunity to work on location. Here, I am working at the St Marks Lighthouse...with special permission of the Park Ranger. Not all areas are open to the public and only during certain seasons are these areas dry enough to support me and my equipment.
The St Marks Lighthouse is located south of Tallahassee, Fl in a town called Newport. If you take the scenic tour along Hwy 98, you will find many such places. The release that came from this location is called |
